Lake Margaret Hydropower
One of the fascinating Queenstown Tasmania things to do.
At the turn of last century the Mt Lyell Mining and Railway company was one of the largest and wealthiest mining operations in the country stemming from innovations such as the Robert Sticht engineered Pyritic Smelter and the Mt Lyell ABT Railway (West Coast Wilderness Railway). Voracious furnaces consumed the forests for energy and coal could not be found. The Mt Lyell company then successfully innovated Hydropower to enhance and strengthen prosperity which in turn set the bar for Tasmania's future Hydro electric aspirations.
